UN Vol. 1 In 2000, female dance groups such as Fin.K.L and Baby VOX dominated the Korean pop charts, so naturally all eyes were focused on the debut of a new male duo called UN ("e;United N Generation"e;). The two members contrasted not only in their outer appearances, but also in their vocal styles. Kim Jung Hoon (who later starred in Palace) projected a prince-like noble image with his soft features and vocals, and caused quite a stir with the media by continuing to matriculate at Seoul University as a dental student. His partner-in-crime, Choi Jung Won, formerly a member of the dance group Bronze, had a hunky heartthrob image and matched it up with tough, rugged vocals. Together, they formed an ensemble that mesmerized the fans. UN generated three big hits with their debut album - Voice Mail (Track1), You Are The One (Track 4), and "e;For Eternity"e; (Track 7) - an achievement most new artists rarely get to taste. UN Vol.1 is produced by husband-and-wife composing team Lee Jung Hyun and Choi Soo Jung. Voice Mail (Track 2) tells a story about a boy who is tormented after discovering that his girlfriend's terminal illness was the true reason behind her wanting to end the relationship. This song was an instant hit among teens and makes literal reference to an "e;N Generation"e; style of communication.
