Yun Niang (DVD) (End) (Taiwan Version)
The director of Qiong Yao classics like The Branding of Plum, Qing Qing He Bian Cao, and Shui Yun Jian, this time Shen Yi teams up with Yang Man Li, the screenwriter behind Ba Jin adaptation Family and Eileen Chang adaptation Ban Sheng Yuan. Both experienced with literary period melodramas, they offer a new take on an old folk tale with their new drama Yun Niang. Departing from her usual lighthearted screen personae, Taiwanese starlet Ady An takes on the title role of tragic heroine Yun Niang. Growing up unaware of her identity and her family's tragic past, she is tested by the cruelties of fate when she unwillingly marries into a rich household and faces the cold treatment of her mother-in-law, played by veteran actress and Qiong Yao regular Leanne Lau Suet Wah. Caught in a world she doesn't belong, Yun Niang must find love and pride on her own terms, as she slowly unravels the relationship between her new family and her own past. The drama co-stars rising heartthrob William Feng Shao Feng (Wind and Cloud 2) and Michael Chang from The Outsiders.
